Custom Wine Room

Custom Wine Room in Atlanta: Turning an 8x8 Space Into a 300-Bottle Showcase

What do you do with an 8x8 space that was originally designed for a future elevator? Turn it into a custom wine room, obviously!

For this Atlanta-area home, an otherwise unused space was transformed into a sophisticated, climate-controlled wine room designed to store and showcase a collection of up to 300 bottles.

This project is a great example of what custom carpentry and built-in cabinetry can accomplish when every inch of a home is thoughtfully designed.

Making the Most of a Small Space

An 8x8 room doesn't sound like much, but with the right design, even a compact space can become a highly functional feature of the home.

Our goal was to maximize wine storage while creating a room that felt intentional, elevated, and completely custom. The finished space combines custom wine storage, built-in shelving, cabinetry, architectural millwork, and specialty lighting to create a wine room that is as functional as it is beautiful.

The room can accommodate up to 300 bottles, with a combination of open shelving, adjustable storage, and a large lower cabinet providing flexibility for the collection.

Custom Maple Feature Wall

The centerpiece of the room is a custom maple feature wall set against a rich black-painted backdrop.

The natural warmth of the maple creates a beautiful contrast with the dark walls, giving the space a modern, upscale feel. Instead of simply storing bottles, the design turns the wine collection into a visual feature of the room.

A floor-to-ceiling wire wine bottle display adds even more impact while taking advantage of the room's vertical space.

It's a perfect example of how custom woodworking in Atlanta homes can transform an ordinary room into something truly unique.

Designed for Wine Storage

Good wine storage requires more than attractive cabinetry. This wine room is fully insulated and climate-controlled with a WhisperKOOL wine cellar cooling system, creating a dedicated environment for storing the collection.

The combination of insulation, climate control, custom storage, and thoughtful design makes this more than a beautiful display—it is a functional wine storage solution designed around the homeowner's needs.

Lighting That Sets the Mood

The finishing touch is the color-changing LED lighting. With the ability to adjust the lighting to suit the occasion, the room can shift from a subtle, warm display to a dramatic entertaining space. The lighting highlights the maple feature wall and bottle display while adding another layer of customization to the room.

Custom Carpentry for Atlanta Homes

Projects like this are what make custom carpentry so rewarding. An unused or overlooked space doesn't have to stay that way.

Whether you're considering a custom wine room, wine cellar, built-in cabinetry, home bar, library, entertainment center, or other custom woodworking project, thoughtful design can turn unused square footage into one of the most memorable spaces in your home.

This 8x8 room went from a space reserved for a future elevator to a 300-bottle custom wine room designed for storage, entertaining, and showcasing the collection.

That's the advantage of going custom.
